we got this.

we got this.

On my birthday, exactly one year ago today, I had to tell my closest friends and family, "I have breast cancer."  We didn't know on that day, before surgery and before the final pathology report, just how big and bad a cancer it would end up being.  My birthday wish last year was, simply, to survive the year ahead.
My wish for this birthday is to give thanks.  For a sister who has, for our entire lives, been with (and for) me, distance be damned.  For a spouse who continued to provide shelter and sustenance despite her own deep personal losses.  For friends, old and new, near and far, who circled the wagons and kept me safe.  For my beautiful kids who, by their very existence, gave my heart strength and purpose when my body had neither.  And for that one incomparably devoted and selfless soul who journeyed alongside me, day after hellish day, with amazing grace, humor and love.  Amy, my dearest friend, I could not have done it without you.
I reassured Amy, on that most surreal morning this time last year, with three simple words: "we got this."  And yet, not surprisingly, it was she who reminded me of that mantra during the roughest of rough days.  Ambitious, perhaps, but we envisioned a movement -- we got this. -- and it is our hope that, with a little help from our friends, we will see it to fruition.
My wish for everyone who may be reading this post is that you are blessed with friends and family in your own lives who are as extraordinary as those I have in mine.
My love and deepest thanks to all,
Susie
